SFE - Société Française d'Ethnopharmacologie -
Association impliquée dans l'étude et la connaissance des plantes médicinales utilisées comme médicaments ou dans la compréhension des pratiques et représentations relatives à la santé et à la maladie.
Jacques Fleurentin, son président, pharmacien et enseignant à l'Université de Metz, et le conseil d'administration ont défini le but de l'association : "promouvoir l'ethnopharmacologie en réalisant et en favorisant études et recherches sur les plantes médicinales et les produits d'origine naturelle utilisés par les médecines traditionnelles, en facilitant les échanges d'informations, en organisant des réunions scientifiques et en développant, d'une façon générale, toute activité en rapport avec ce but poursuivi".
En particulier, la Société Française d'Ethnopharmacologie s'efforce de faciliter la coordination entre la recherche fondamentale et appliquée en mettant en relation les compétences des membres et en jouant un rôle de consultant.

Les travaux devraient permettre finalement :

* la sauvegarde d'un patrimoine culturel en péril ;
* l'intégration des médecines traditionnelles dans les systèmes de santé ;
* l'amélioration et la normalisation des remèdes traditionnels ;
* l'évaluation des ressources naturelles (plantes à principes actifs, plantes à indications thérapeutiques originales).

Les objectifs

Le recensement des savoirs sur les médecines traditionnelles savantes et populaires, à travers l'histoire et les différentes cultures, aussi bien des sociétés qui nous ont légué des écrits, que celles de tradition orale.

L'évaluation de l'intérêt thérapeutique des plantes médicinales permettant l'élaboration d'une classification de plantes et d'extraits végétaux en fonction de leurs usages traditionnels et des connaissances chimiques, pharmacologiques, toxicologiques et cliniques. Cette approche a un double but :

* conduire à la découverte de nouveaux médicaments
* utiliser de manière plus rationnelle des produits issus de la médecine traditionnelle dans les pays en voie de développement

Le retour de l'information vers l'informateur : il est important que les résultats de laboratoire et de terrain parviennent au tradipraticien qui a fournit les renseignements

Pour répondre à ses objectifs, la Société Française d'Ethnopharmacologie a décidé de :
